Introduction

This month marks the 20th Birthday of The Belgian Owl, and we join in the celebration of this milestone as WhiskyCenter.com begins importing The Belgian Owl from today. Our southern neighbors have long enjoyed these spirits, and occasionally, we have had the chance to taste the offspring of the former Carpedonic stills. From now on, the owl extends its wings from Hesbaye to The Netherlands in collaboration with Whisky Centers.

A Message from Our Importer

As importer Dirk Jan Keijser remarked, “First of all, congratulations to The Belgian Owl and its team members on its the marks of her 20th Birthday this November. We have been observing this Owl, so to speak, for over a decade, and it is remarkable that after a series of discussions, we are privileged to represent The Belgian Owl and contribute further to the distribution of high-quality artisanal continental whisky.”

History os The Belgian Owl

On November 29, 2004, the first cask was filled at the distillery, fueled by the ambition to create a locally authentic product in the Hesbaye. This ambition has resulted in a whisky that ranks among the best in the world and has been winning multiple awards for decades. For example, it received the title of “Best European Single Cask” in 2011 with a rating of 95% in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible.

Distilling

Honoring ancient traditions, The Belgian Owl distills with two authentic stills, acquired from the former Caperdonich Distillery in Speyside, Scotland. Thus, in the picturesque Hesbaye region, a unique, pure, and balanced whisky of the highest quality is crafted. It’s an understatement to say that this significantly contributes to The Belgian Owl being one of the finest whiskies in the world.

Artisan Single Malt

Being one with nature is a prerequisite for success. A fair trade agreement with the 29 farmers at and near the distillery ensures a high-quality supply and limits the volumes in case of a smaller harvest. The production of the Single Malt adheres to a purely artisanal process, with the necessary care and attention. All acres are interwoven with nature, and the ecosystem is honored, in harmony with plants and insects.
