Current situation at Waterford Distillery
In late November 2024, after failing to secure additional financing, Waterford Distillery was placed into receivership. HSBC Invoice Finance UK Limited appointed Interpath Advisory as receivers, and staff were formally notified on November 27. All distillery operations have been paused under the receivers’ control.
Financial overview
Waterford reported accumulated losses of €7.7 million in 2023 and holds whisky stocks valued at approximately €40.1 million. Sales declined by about 10% that same year, exacerbating its cash-flow challenges despite a €45 million loan facility agreed earlier in 2023 with HSBC.
Next steps
The appointed receivers are now exploring options to either sell the distillery as a going concern or liquidate assets—including whisky stocks, spirit in casks, and equipment—to repay creditors. A potential buyer may emerge in the coming weeks, though closure remains possible if no viable offer appears.
