If you are a whisky enthusiast or interested in whisky and everything that makes this golden drink so special, a visit to the most famous whisky event in the Netherlands is highly recommended.

The International Whisky Festival first took place in 2000, aiming to give visitors an extensive introduction to the ‘nectar of the gods’ – whisky.

Upon entering the Grote Kerk, you will receive a tasting glass so you can enjoy the offered whiskies at various stands. There are many free whisky samples, known as drams in Scottish. If you want to taste more exclusive/older whiskies, a fee will be charged by the standholder. This can only be paid with ‘drams’, the festival currency. You can buy this festival currency at the organization desk: 1 dram = 1 euro.

Themes at the Festival

Festival Bottling 2024
Each edition of the Whisky Festival presents a special bottling, exclusively available at the International Whisky Festival. This year, two very unique Wolfsburn casks have been selected.

Introduction Course
Are you new to the world of whisky? For just €7.50 extra, you can follow a short introductory course before the festival (in Dutch). You will also taste two whiskies: a Single Malt and a Blended Whisky.

Whisky Trails
This is a guided tour along various stands on the festival floor. Five guides with years of experience in the whisky world are available. This tour is free but requires a reservation. Don’t wait too long to reserve, as the number of participants is limited.

Masterclass
A masterclass, also known as a Nosing and Tasting session, is conducted by a Master in the field or a Brand Ambassador. It is very interesting to attend such a tasting. The masterclasses take place in Het Nutshuis or a separate room in the church, available for 20 to 50 people. During these masterclasses, you will taste 4 to 6 whiskies.

The Hague ‘Whisky’ Tram
The well-known HTM event tram has been transformed into the Hague Whisky Tram for the Whisky Festival. During the festival, the tram runs through The Hague. Enjoy various whiskies and see The Hague at its best, guided by two authentic Hague whisky experts, Wouter and Connie Vink.

Liquor Store
During the festival, there is an opportunity to buy whisky on-site at the Festival Whisky Liquor Store. Here you will find special bottlings and/or whiskies that are not available everywhere. The liquor store opens 1 hour after the start and closes 5 minutes before the end of each session.

Entry Tickets

You can only access the festival if you are 18 years or older and have a valid entry ticket. If necessary, a valid ID may also be requested. If there are any government measures in place for access in 2024, we will comply with them.

Ordering Entry Tickets
E-Tickets: You can order your entry ticket via the website. Payment is only possible with iDeal and Bancontact. Your reservation is only final once you have received a confirmation with a reservation number by email. After payment is received, you can download the ordered tickets. For questions, you can always contact the organization via email at info@whiskyfestival.nl.

International Whisky Society
Members of the International Whisky Society are guaranteed access to the festival even if the session is fully booked, except for the VIP session. However, it is necessary to reserve your entry ticket. This can be done up to 1 week before the start of the festival. For more information, see ‘order tickets’ on this site. More information can be found on our website in the Newsletter.

Prices/Opening Hours

The opening hours of each session are listed below. Half an hour before the end of the session, a ‘last call’ will be announced with bagpipe music. As a visitor, you then have fifteen minutes to get a final ‘dram’, after which it is time to leave the church.
