Dockyard Gin
About Dockyard Gin
Dockyard Gin is meticulously crafted by Copper Rivet Distillery, located in a repurposed 19th-century dockyard pumphouse in Chatham, Kent. Known for its grain-to-glass approach, the distillery produces premium whisky, gin, and vodka. The entire fermentation and distillation process is undertaken on-site, ensuring a unique flavor profile distinct to the distillery.
History and Heritage
The distillery is housed in Pumphouse No. 5, a historic building completed in 1873, originally used for draining four dry docks. The distillery’s location in Chatham Dockyard has a rich naval history, with connections to significant events such as the launch of HMS Victory in 1765 and the Dutch raid on the Medway in 1667.
Production Process
Dockyard Gin is a contemporary take on traditional naval gins, celebrating the distillery’s home in Chatham Dockyard. The gin is crafted using a unique hand-made copper still named Janet and infused with the finest botanicals sourced from across the globe. The distillery focuses on low-temperature and slow fermentation to create a distinct flavor profile.
Experiences and Offerings
The distillery offers various experiences, including the Distillery Tour & Tasting, Cocktail Masterclass, and Whisky Blending Experience. The Pumproom Restaurant, located within the distillery, focuses on local sustainable menu choices and even uses spent grain and yeast to create bread and marmite.
