Rogia?
Initially it was thought that the name Bruges was a corruption of the Celtic word Rogia, which means “Holy Water”.
By evolution, the name of the water, Rogia or Ryggia, would also have become the name of the city, Bryggia.
But nowadays it is thought that the meaning of ‘Bruges’ is simply ‘bridge’. That first (wooden) bridge was probably built by the Roman army.

Our ROGIA …Â
Bruges Whisky started with Rogia. Always first fill casks and mostly under the 60 liter volume to let the oak and spirit get to know one another smoothly.Â
All our batches under the name Rogia are small batch and cask strength, starting 2020. In 2021 we will also present the Ryggia with larger casks and a lower alcohol percentage. Rogia is high end premium and Ryggia will be easier available.
Whisky Center is exclusive importer for Bruges Whisky. We expect this fall a small but exclusive first delivery from our Belgium friends in Bruges. Since it will be 15-18 months old this spirit is named “Halfway”.
Batch 7 – October 2020
A first fill moscatel cask is used and we don not finish a few weeks as we see at Tomatin or Glenallachie for instance. This cask will be bottled completely and will be on the market expected october 2020. Â
Batch 8 – August 2020
A new french oak, more than moderate toasted to add on the smoky flavor. Expect a vanilla bomb, bottled as Destillery Exclusive.
Batch 9 – Augustus 2020
A PX sherry cask which we obtained by coincidence, supposedly our best young malt and bottled as Distillery Exclusive. This jewel will be hardly on the market to give us the chance to pour at tastings and events.
