History of Ringrone Castle

Perched above the River Bandon, just south of Kinsale, this 13th-century castle was constructed on land granted to Milo de Cogan by Henry II. In 1600, the castle was held by Spanish forces but was captured by the English during the Siege of Kinsale after a fierce cannon attack. Today, the remnants of Ringrone Castle lie just a stone’s throw from our brewery and distillery, inspiring us to create the first whiskey produced entirely in Kinsale.
